Well it's new to me but is from the 1970's. I found this book in the charty shop for 50p and it's worth so much more as it is full of really sweet illustrations by Joan Walsh Anglund. I hadn't heard of Joan before but after a bit of "Googling" found that she has illustrated many childrens book and that vintage copies are becoming quite collectable. Those illustrations really are sweet. Strangely enough, Mr CB and I were talking only the other day about nursery rhymes, saying how sinister some of the old ones are. Remember Goosey, Goosey Gander? The last lines are:
'There I met an old man who wouldn't say his prayers, so I took him by the left leg and threw him down the stairs'.
Nice! x
I know and some make no sense and others, I gather, have political implications. Weird what we sing to our babies. Sx
