What a fantastic day for British Design?

 

THE dress by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen,  the wonderful architecture of London and the Aston Martin are just a few of the examples seen at the Royal Wedding yesterday of brilliant British design. Seeing it all made me feel proud to be a designer from the United Kingdom and what great publicity for us?

Royal Wedding Fever

In the UK at the mo. the hot topic is the Royal Wedding. It's everywhere: memorabilia in shops, all over the telly, parties being planned and the extra day's holiday - Yey! Some people I know are going to London to watch the procession and feel the atmosphere. Sounds fun but I figured you'd have to sit on the roof of a double decker bus to see anything so I'm going to stay at home. All the best Wills and Kate and see you on the news!

Easter colours

I popped into town today and I really loved all the Easter displays. The colours were fantastic!
I came home all inspired to create some prints and then.................. sat in the garden in the sunshine, how rubbish is that?

A new book

 Well it's new to me but is from the 1970's. I found this book in the charty shop  for 50p and it's worth so much more as it is full of really sweet illustrations by Joan Walsh Anglund. I hadn't heard of Joan before but after a bit of "Googling" found that she has illustrated many childrens book and that vintage copies are becoming quite collectable. Partytime

Where does time go? My little girl will soon be 10 years old. Here is the party invite I have designed for her. I wonder if she'll like it? Maybe it's not cool enough and I expect she'd prefer a picture of Justine Beiber on it. Hey ho!

Screen messing..........

Screen Printing is another thing I used to do years ago but haven't done since leaving Art College. I did a one day workshop at the weekend and was reminded how great printing is and how frustrating it is too!
We made paper stencils which were successful but I had forgotten how much cleaning of screens there is and how long you have to wait until you add another colour. I am not a very patient person and want results NOW but I would love to do more, maybe I could get kitted out at home? PS: to my friends who produce beautiful screen prints please look away now.
