A friend of mine has launched a website called Little Shops. It's a new online guide to little shops and cafes in and around the Milton Keynes area. If you love little shops but don't know where to find them, what they sell, or how to get the most out of your special trip to wherever that shop or cafe may be, then this guide is for you.The website was launched today and has an interview with me about the stuff I like around the area - thanks Ursh. So, if you are local and want to support local small business's get on over there and have a gander at all the gorgeous things you could do and buy.

Playing

At craft club last week we had a play with some Procion dying.  It was messy FABULOUS fun. I dyed fabrics (some were embroidered), braid, lace and ribbons plus I discovered that silk flowers and leaves dye really well too. I can't wait to do more.

Tra - la- la- la- la: Creep

We are learning Creep by Radiohead (1992) at choir at the mo. We sing the gritty rock ballad in a sweet angelic way which will be a surprise for the audience (hopefully a pleasant one). My fav. part of the original song is when the electric guitar first comes in, utter rock heaven : )

78 Derngate

Wow, what a place. I have been meaning to go there for ages and I finally made it last week to see the interior of 78 Derngate designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh. I saw the TV series showing the renovations and was so excited to see the great mans work for real. For such a humble terraced house, it's a stunning patchwork of pattern and design. There is also a lovely gallery and supporting museum next door and a shop and cafe. Walking round the house is very moving as you learn about Rennie Mackintosh and the Bassett-Lowkes who commissioned the refurbishment. Rennie Mackintosh was so ahead of his time but died in poverty having been largely unrecognised for his work. A sad story but a very great house that has been lovingly been brought back to life and is a great tribute. For more info visit the website here.

Populaire

If you like Mad Men, 50's styling and a bit of a romance com. then this film is for you. It's a French film about a speed typist, strange  subject for a film I know but it honestly works. It's a funny, sensual, classy film that will leave you happy and wanting a new pair of diamante specs.

Naomi Ryder

Image of 'Kath on phone' Greetings card
I love Naomi Ryder's work and was lucky enough to see some in the flesh a couple of weeks ago at Bucks County Museum. They have an exhibition on at the mo called "Stitched into Life" which runs until 29th June and features Naomi's delightful, beautiful and humorous work. Her work is so free and uninhibited, I can only dream to be able to work like that AND she does it all in stitches!

It's a bit of an embroidery fest at the museum as there is another exhibition running in tandem to Naomi's called "Splendid Stitches & Exotic Embroidery", this runs until 6th July.  Sumptuous embroideries and textiles have been selected from rarely seen treasures from three collections: the Embroiderers’ Guild, the County Museum’s Buckinghamshire collections and a rare 17th century group in the care of the National Trust at Claydon House. Featuring Indian inspirations, gorgeous garments and textile treasures from past and present including contemporary work by local embroidery groups. It's free to get into both exhibitions. For more info follow this link here.
