Yellow

By Joe age 6
By Lucy age 12

Yellow has been creeping up on me for a couple of years. I was never a fan but have noticed that I use the sunshine shade more and more in my work and seem to be surrounding myself with egg yolk to acid. Weird how that happens : )

Mr Pink Plastic

Meet Mr Pink Plastic, made by my friend Esme. She is a great designer and has a lovely blog and shop called ByEsme. She LOVES recycling and creating new, beautiful and practical things from rubbish. Esme's interest was sparked by her travels to underdeveloped countries. She noticed the intelligence of creative recycling and observed people re-using items in many ways, its life as long as its endless possibilities of transformation. Esme employs a few people from the Botha´s Hill settlement in Kwazulu natal, South Africa. They help her with the crafty bits and the sewing. They also have FUN creating unique products for the ByEsme shop. I can't see Mr Pink in her shop yet but I really want to buy him, he is so gorgeous and made from plastic bags, how cool is that?

Barbara Gunter Jones

I went to a talk last week by Barbara Gunter Jones. She told us about her work with  blueprint photograms. Barbara works with a technique called cyanotype which was invented in 1843. She coats paper or fabric with a light sensitive solution and exposes a contact print of plants directly onto the surface in sunlight to create a unique photogram. The photogram can then be toned to give it an aged effect, over printed with a lino cut print and details can be hand-painted or stitched. She works from a studio in the Chiltern hills in Hertfordshire, England and uses plants gathered from the surrounding woodland. Barbara's work is beautiful, I was so inspired by her use of colour and simple compositions. To see more of her great work follow this link here  and here for her shop.

I got a shark for Mothers Day!

My daughter made me this shark for Mothers Day, it's probably modelled on me first thing in the morning! It's not a traditional Mothers Day gift I know, but I love him and his toothy mouth. I hope all the Mums out there were able to chill yesterday and that you were spoilt rotten.

Sticky Stuff

I bought these stickers ages ago in France and put them somewhere safe for a rainy day.  I lost them! But the other day came across them (hurrah!)  and we had a great time making little pictures with the sticker pieces. The designer is Geraldine Cosneau. I can't find anywhere on line that still sells the stickers but here is a link to Geraldine's gorgeous blog.

A great quote on a napkin

"Strive for perfection in everything you do. Take the best that exists and make it better. When is does not exist, design it." Sir Henry Royce
