Colouring in
As a child I spent hours and hours and hours colouring in, so this weekend I really enjoyed reliving those times with my kids. We coloured in pages from the i colour book which has lots of gorgeous designs and once your creation is finished you can detach it and use it as a postcard.

From Somewhere?
In the Telegraph magazine last weekend there was a very interesting article about a Orsola de Castro, the first person to create up cycled fashion on an Industrial scale. Orsola goes to great lengths to source vast quantities of fabric and clothes from all over the world that would previously have gone into landfill. She designs with that raw material in mind and as some fabrics she uses are already made up into garments, she has to redesign using what she is given thus transforming them into a commercial garment. This is great skill. Recycling, up cycling and making do and mending is very close to my heart. If I am honest I like "things" especially beautiful hand made "things", so, by buying/making something out of waste ticks that box for me but I don't feel like I am over consuming! If you want to read more about Orsolas business "From somewhere" please follow this link www.fromsomewhere.co.uk . She even has some up cycled clothes for sale in the uk supermarket Tesco! Above is my attempt to up cycle, a flower brooch made from an old pair of gloves.

They say nothing in life is definate...............
...........except birth, death and TAXES. That's what I am doing this week, my tax return (definitely not giving birth and hopefully not dying). I find book keeping very dull, I just want to float away on a seed head in my print and do something more interesting!

Sock monkey
I'd like to introduce to you my new friend (he hasn't got a name yet). I saw some monkeys made out of a pair of socks in a shop yesterday and rushed home to make one. I thought once I had made a prototype I could get my children to have a go, but this version is a bit tricky due to lots of sewing. I need to come up with an easier version. Watch your socks!

A trip out!
Yesterday I left my computer and headed for Milton Keynes theatre. I attended a talk there about the costume department. I was hoping to see lots of costumes, but it was more a talk about the workings of the dept. That said, it was still incredibly interesting and there were a few costumes and wigs to look at. I had no idea that so much goes on whilst we are all watching a production. A lovely lady called Rachel, who has the official title of "Dresser", spoke about the in's and out's of getting actors and dancers on stage at the right time, in the right outfit and then helping them if they have a costume change during the production. Some changes have to take less than 30 seconds! They also have to wash garments and get them ready for the next show, make any repairs and replace any damaged items.
There were lots of secrets revealed too, like how to remove stains on costumes (baby wipes or vodka are good stain removers), the fact that most costumes are fastened with Velcro and the amounts of padding, hooks and body odour that has to be endured!!! Yuk!

Thank-you Father Christmas
I am pleased to say that I am sticking to one of my New Years resolutions, to do more craft with my children. They made their thank-you notes this week and we came up with the idea of using the sweetie wrappers from all the Christmas indulgence. They even insisted on sending one to Father Christmas to say thank-you for their gifts, bless them!

New Years Resolutions
*To stop buying silver shoes.
*To do more craft with my children. I Usually don't do craft with them very often because it's 5 mins of entertainment against 30 mins of clearing up so I will try and be more patient.
*Be more patient!
*To be a more experimental cook.
*................and finally to have more fun.
