Jane Eyre

If you like film versions of classics then I think the recent film of Jane Eyre is FANTASTIC! It has everything: great cinematography, acting, costumes and of course it has Mr Rochester. Micheal Fassbender plays Edward Rochester perfectly (swoon). What a treat and I can't wait to see it again.

Rich pickings!

At the weekend we collected these from the hedgerow. They made a perfect crumble which tasted even nicer because all the fruit was free! It was glorious! Obviously we didn't eat the conkers they just make the picture look nice.

Flower pounding!

Now this is a stress buster and you get to be creative too. For Craft Club last month, we had a go at some flower pounding. Basically, you stick flowers to some fabric with masking tape (see this book here for more technical info. and inspiration) and then, using a hammer, you hammer them to death forcing all the pigments from the flowers onto the fabric. It's very thereputic (and noisy) tapping away and then peeling off the flowers to see what's happened. With my finished piece, I decided to create a picture and added applique and beads but you can paint or embellish the work how you want, it just can't be washed.

Vintage ribbons

Before we all had washing machines, bed linen was sent to a laundry to be cleaned, dried and pressed (starched too) so monogrammed marker ribbons were used to identify what belonged to who.  I found these vintage French ribbons on eBay. I love them because they could be used for many craft and sewing projects as well as naming children's clothes and would also make a great personal gift too. A full roll consists of 72 pairs of letters.  Follow this link here to see if your initials are there!

Wheely happy!

My bike has had a makeover; new paintwork, a clean and polish plus a funky covered seat. It needed a spruce up so I am really pleased with it. What do you think? Do you think my hubby has a business idea?
